Be the Boss!

You are in charge of your dog!

I believe that this is a very important aspect of dog ownership because mastering this concept allows us to pitch the relationship between ourselves and our dogs at the right level!

As humans we are in charge of our dogs. If you see the average pampered pooch you wouldn't believe this to be true and this is why we have so many issues with our dogs!

Ask yourself these questions. Can your dog pay the bills? can your dog help the kids with the homework? Fix the car? Make difficult decisions about health, finances, relationships?

No? That's right, you make those decisions because you are the brains of the outfit! Your dog is fabulous but absolutely useless at anything that requires complex thought and action! Why? Because a lot of them are thick as bricks! (In a nice way!) They have no mental capacity for anything other than basic animal instincts or breed DNA.

YOU ARE IN CHARGE! Your dog likes it that way and wants to look up to you as a leader who can make the right decisions and keep everyone safe, happy and healthy! If you don't step up to the mark you are letting he/she down and in order to ensure everyone's survival, your dog will try to step up to the plate and take on the burden of leadership for the good of everyone.

Imagine suddenly becoming Prime Minister and being asked what to do in the face of a potential nuclear stand-off, or what to do about the financial crisis? Could you cope or would you be completely stressed out and out of your depth! That is what your dog feels when you don't take your leadership role and they do! Completely out of there depth and stressed! You owe it to your dog to be strong and to lead them and call the shots! THEY WANT YOU TO!

I will add each part of my method to these pages on a regular basis and post the details to Facebook and twitter and my blog when new pages are added.
